Dear
Friends in Christ: When I was growing
up, my Dad was in the Merchant Marines. That meant he spent a lot of time at sea; an average trip was 3 months long and some
were as long as 5 or 6 months. Every time he came home, we celebrated!. One of my favorite childhood
memories was going hand in hand with my father, knocking on doors and inviting our neighbors to come celebrate with us. It's
something most of us do and have done quite easily; inviting people to birthday parties, graduation parties, Super Bowl parties,
to say nothing of Tupperware, Princess House, etc.
We are planning two
special events in the parish that I hope you will invite friends, neighbors and relatives to attend. The
first is a free Ice Cream Social to be held at the Blossburg Church Social Room, Sunday, July 11th from 6:30 p.m. to
8:00 p.m. This is for the community and a way to simply sit down with our neighbors and visit.
The second opportunity is a little different.
Every Sunday night, from Sunday July 25th through the Sundays in August, the community is invited
to "Sunday Night Light" in the Blossburg Social Room from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday Night Light will include a short video, discussion, and refreshments
(good refreshments free). It will be anything but "lite". It
is simply an opportunity to talk about faith and practice and struggles. It is not worship, not counseling, and not a class.
It is an opportunity for the church to reach out. If you have questions about either of these events, feel free to call me
(638-2008). If you can help with hospitality for the Ice Cream Social or Sunday Night Light, let's talk.
Both
of these events are 'parish' events and there will be a few special week-night services planned at the Covington Church in
August.
In Christ, Who calls us to extend hospitality for the kingdom of God,
Pastor Michele
